Rehab (Ageing-in-Place Project)The AIP Project kicked off in July 2010 with funding from Temasek Cares to operate a Rehab centre in Tanjong Rhu. This was driven by the felt needs of the community & addresses the concerns & need of a growing elderly population. Whilst the Rehab Centre and activities remain at the core of the project, it is still the objective of the centre to help with enabling the elderly to live in their own homes within the community rather than being placed into assisted living or nursing homes. The bigger plan calls for the development and the provision of a range of community support services, products and conveniences to enhance and augment cognitive and physical capabilities so that independent living may be continued.
The introduction of AIP in 2010 is in essence the re-engineering of 10 years of pioneering community work launched by St. Hilda’s; way ahead of other national initiatives. Prayerfully, AIP would be the new milestone and example for a society where the elderly would not be a burden and whose life after 65 is just the beginning of a new phase and not the end of a life time.
In order to help the residents with mobility problems, therapists may visit home-bound cases to assess their needs and recommendations on treatment/physiotherapy or occupational therapy regime. Together with the Care Team, progress was made to break resistance and apprehensions in some of the elderly residents to treatments.
